RING FAQ'S

What metals can you make rings in?

Our rings are available in Stainless Steel, Titanium, Tungsten, Tantalum and Cobalt. For more information on our individual metals, please read our guides which can be found on the specific metal pages. Here's a few pointers on our metals:

Our Stainless Steel is 316L marine and surgical grade steel. It is corrosion and rust resistant and is a grey/silver colour.

Titanium is the lightest of our metal choices, and very strong! It has a similar colour/tone to stainless steel. If you have any acute allergies, we recommend Titanium as our most hypoallergenic metal.

Tantalum is our second heaviest metal, with a unique blue undertone in its colouring. It has a similar strength to stainless steel.

Tungsten is our strongest and heaviest metal, with a dark grey colouring. Tungsten is very strong yet brittle, so please be aware that if Tungsten is dropped or has an impact it can be damaged.

Cobalt is slightly harder than stainless steel, and a bright silver colour, similar to platinum. It is similar in weight to stainless steel.

Can I wear your rings next to a precious metal ring?

We always recommend that if you'd like to wear two rings on the same finger, that they are made from the same metal. If you have any questions about which metal to order your ring in, email us at info@flinnandsteel.co.uk.

I don't know my ring size, what do I do?

No problem, just pick the "Send Me A Free Ring Sizer" option as you add your ring to your basket. Then we will send out a free ring sizer to work out your size. For more info on this, click here. We recommend using our ring sizer rather than going to a high street jeweller, as we use a central measurement for our rings, which can be different to the 'leading edge' measurements some jewellers use! If you need advice, don't hesitate to email us!

When using our ring sizer, choose the ring size you think is right, and remove this ring from the cord by unscrewing it. Wear this all day if you can, to make sure the size is comfortable when you're warm, cold, after exercise, etc. Bear in mind that during the summer/hot weather your ring will feel more snug, and in the winter/cold weather your ring will feel slightly looser! This is completely normal, so don't worry if your ring feels a bit tight after you've been for a run or you're out catching some rays!

Our fingers also fluctuate with weight loss and gain, so if you're planning a health kick or weight loss journey, we recommend ordering when you're almost at your goal to make sure your ring size is as accurate as possible!

Do you do bespoke/custom pieces?

Unfortunately no, we don't offer a bespoke service.

Can you resize my ring if I order the wrong size?

Unfortunately due to the strength of the materials used to make our rings, they cannot be resized once they are made, however we offer 1 complimentary exchange if your ring is in pristine condition and has not been engraved or made to order. If you wish to contact us to talk over this more, please email us on info@flinnandsteel.co.uk.

If you are ordering a ring and you're not 100% sure on your ring size, we recommend ordering without engraving to confirm the size is just right, and then send the ring back to us at a later date to have your engraving added!

If you choose 'Please send my ring without engraving and I will return it for engraving when I know the fit is right!' please note that you will be responsible for the postage to return the ring to us.

If your ring is not personalised, engraved or made to order, wherever possible we will offer one exchange if the original ring is in pristine, re-saleable condition. The ring must be returned to us within 14 days of delivery in order to be eligible for an exchange, unless an extended period has been agreed in writing by us. After such time, an admin fee of £30 will be charged for any exchanges which have been agreed by us. You are responsible for return postage charges for exchanges unless otherwise agreed.

What ring width should I buy?

The width of a ring's band is measured in millimetres. If you're not sure which width will suit you best, we have a blog post with hand images of our most popular widths, and we also have a printable width guide! Check out our guide here.

Are your rings scratch-proof?

Although the materials we use are stronger than others such as platinum and gold, they are still susceptible to scuffs and scratches. From the day you start wearing your ring to many happy years later, your ring will begin to develop a patina of surface markings.

Can I add a personalised engraving?

Of course you can! Personalised engraving is available on almost all of our rings (up to a maximum of 30 characters including spaces, or 20 characters on cufflinks), simply enter your chosen engraving in the text box on the product page, and we'll do the rest! Personalised engraving can add up to 1 week to the standard lead time.

You could write a special message, nicknames, the date of your wedding or your initials for example.  We engraved our rings with a nice, clean, simple font such as Helvetica.

*Please be aware, rings purchased with a personalised engraving are not eligible for exchange. If you're not 100% sure of your ring size, we recommend ordering your ring without engraving and sending it back at a later date to be added once you know your ring is the perfect fit!

If you choose 'Please send my ring without engraving and I will return it for engraving when I know the fit is right!' please note that you will be responsible for the postage to return the ring to us.

Can I change the ring I've ordered? It's too big or too small?

If your ring has not been personalised or made to order, we offer one complimentary exchange to make sure your ring is the perfect fit! We recommend using our ring sizers if you're not sure on your ring size, however we understand that ring sizes are not an exact science! If your ring arrives and is too big or too small, get in touch on info@flinnandsteel.co.uk and we'll talk you through the options. The ring must be returned in pristine condition within 14 days of delivery to be eligible for exchange.

Goods that are personalised and/or engraved to your specific requirements are custom orders, which means that the item will be made, personalised or customised especially for you; because of this, these pieces of jewellery cannot be exchanged or returned under any circumstances.

The only exception to this would be if upon receiving the item a fault is present please contact us within a 14 day period. For more information click here.

If your ring is not personalised, engraved or made to order, wherever possible we will offer one exchange if the original ring is in pristine, re-saleable condition. The ring must be returned to us within 14 days of delivery in order to be eligible for an exchange, unless an extended period has been agreed in writing by us. You are responsible for return postage charges for exchanges or re-sizings unless otherwise agreed.

What sizes do you make your rings in?

We make our slimmer 2.5mm and 3mm rings in sizes I - Z, whilst our other wider pieces are available from M - Z (Some designs available up to Z+3). Our Signet ring is available in sizes K - Z. Made-to-Order rings available in up to size Z+6. Please check the individual product you're interested in to find out what sizes are available.

Not sure of your ring size? Select "Send me a free ring sizer" in the ring size field. After you have checked out, we will pause your order, send you a ring sizer and then re-start your order when we have heard from you.

Please remember that your fingers change size a little being smaller when cold compared to when warm. They may also change over a day from morning to evening. We suggest you try the ring sizer on at different times of the day and when your hands are at normal temperature.
