It all started with some lost rings...
Imagine this, Jessica has just picked up four Stainless Steel rings from one of our suppliers in Sheffield and drives home. In that time they magically disappear into thin air! With weddings coming up in the next weeks and no way to replace them Jessica went into panic mode! And who was her shining knight? Ollie of course!!
Ollie stepped up to the bar and decided he would have a go making them for her. Over the course of a weekend, he had purchased his own lathe, stayed up through the night and began mastering the art of turning rings and in that moment Jessica & Ollie's collaboration was born.
Jump forward many years, here we are with our dedicated Sheffield Steel website, more product lines and more options than ever before. From bespoke engravings, to being licensed to use the official Made In Sheffield mark Jessica and Ollie's little business has gone from strength to strength.
Jessica studied Metalwork and Jewellery at Sheffield Hallam University and had started her business before she had even officially graduated. Starting out with Stainless Steel laser engraved jewellery sold to art galleries and traditional high street jewellers, she then went on to open her own little jewellery boutique. After relocating their business to their home just before their first child Carmen was born, Jessica and Ollie started to work together full time. They now live in a converted church on the edge of the Peak District National Park in Sheffield with their two children Carmen and Robin, collie dog Moss and Silver the cat! Our workshop is a gorgeous garden studio which looks over a forest and this is where our rings are created by Ollie.
Ollie studied Furniture Design at Sheffield Hallam and went on to set up a product design consultancy. After a short spell in property development he went on to running his own woodworking business and his artisan maker skills were featured on the TV series BBC Money For Nothing.
He started making rings for Jessica in a crisis and with order quantities increasing he switched from woodwork to ring making full time in 2019. Now he's Jessica's right hand man, the creator behind our Sheffield Steel rings, along side designing our products and keeping the business going too.
Yes, but did you find those rings though?
If you have read this far, you deserve to know that we did (eventually) find the missing rings, approximately six months later! They were tucked down the back of baby Carmen's changing bag - can we blame the baby brain?!
